CNC Mill Programmer Role and Responsibilities
CNC Mill and/or Lathe Programmer/Operator
Non-exempt
Reports to: Tool Maker Lead
Role:
- Ensures that all tools are built or modified to client specifications and is able to run as efficiently as possible.
Quality Role:
- Verify dimensions, alignments, etc. of mold to ensure conformance to specifications.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Program CNC Mills and Lathes. (Cimatron preferred)
- Set up and run CNC Mills and lathes from programs you create.
- Install and properly align all tooling required to set up new and repeat jobs.
- Prove-out new CNC programs and processes.
- Perform in-process inspection including shadow graph, bore gauges, micrometers, sine plates, gauge pins and tooling balls.
- Make dimensional offset adjustments and/or tooling changes as needed, in addition to monitoring general quality by knowledge of metal cutting parameters.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as the speed, feed and coolant flow. Able to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust the machine controls as needed.
- Responsible for operation of multiple machines at the same time.
- Responsible for strong understanding of blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece.
- Monitor tools and re-order tooling as needed.
- Keep supervisor aware of any condition that may affect the efficiency, quality or completion of jobs.
- Set-up and operate secondary machines and deburring operations.
- Keep a clean and safe machine and work areas.
- Assist maintenance personnel in the trouble-shooting and repair of the machine.
- Responsible to maintain acceptable quality and efficiency standards.
- Responsible for understanding quality manual and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership to less experienced employees.
- Candidate must be self-motivated and willing to learn new techniques.
- Other duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Ability to read, speak and write English.
- Knowledge of plastic injection molding industry.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including reading blueprints.
- Be proficient in the use of machinist hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Experience with a wide range of machining processes such as milling, turning, grinding, process planning, inspection and safety factors.
- Experience in the set-up and operation of CNC machine tools and processes.
- Ability to lift up to 55lbs.
Education:
- Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Preferred: Certificate form any technical/trade school or college
